JCI Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh Business Society are excited to work together on a series of workshops to help you be the dream candidate for your dream job.

Over the course of three workshops you will learn all about how to make yourself stand out from the crowd, how you can make your CV stand out from the crowd, and how you can deal with a mental blank during an interview.

Join us for the second workshop of the series which is all about thinking on your feet and dealing with a mental blank.

Ever worried about saying too much – or too little – in the moments that matter? Have you got the fear of the mental blank during a job interview or only knowing the ‘right’ answer to a question the minute you leave the room? This session aims to help attendees to:
• Understand why they may have the freeze or motormouth reaction in job interviews, Q and As or presentations;
• Provide tips for responding to questions and curveballs;
• Give an opportunity for practice for some of the techniques that will help attendees feel more confident in their own ability to know what to say in moments of pressure.

This workshop will be facilitated by Ishbel Smith. Ishbel founded communications consultancy Heart In Mouth because she has seen the difference it makes when people speak from the heart with skill, confidence and passion. Using her experience gleaned from her various lives as a commercial litigator, a competitive debater, a charity trustee, a mature student and a parent of strident teenagers, she works with wide range of people and organisations to help them find and focus their messages. Ishbel takes a creative and practical approach to helping people understand the “why” as well as the “how” of good communication, enabling them to express what they need to say, when they need to say it, in an effective and personal manner.

The last workshop of the series will take place on Wednesday 14 October (CV and Interview Skills).
