A full-body, stress-busting fitness class that combines movement and weights to help release tension and leave you feeling recharged.

The Climate Fresk is an innovative and collaborative workshop that raises awareness and educates people about climate change through a hands-on, interactive experience. Created in 2015 by Cédric Ringenbach, the workshop simplifies the complexities of climate science, enabling participants to grasp the causes and consequences of climate change in just a few hours. Using a science-based, visual approach, the Climate Fresk fosters collective understanding and empowers individuals and groups to take meaningful action in response to the climate crisis.

&#8220;The Quiz &amp; Chipper Event&#8221;&nbsp;is a lunch time social hosted by&nbsp;JCI Aberdeen&nbsp;at&nbsp;The Ashvale, our local fish and chips restaurant. It provides members and potential members with an opportunity to socialise over a delicious meal while participating in a friendly quiz. With the aim of strengthening connections and fostering camaraderie within the&nbsp;JCI Aberdeen&nbsp;community, it promises a fun-filled afternoon of food and entertainment.



Note:&nbsp;£12 fee per attendee to be paid at the restaurant.

JCI Aberdeen Past President, Charles Henderson, would like to invite all JCI Aberdeen members to the Hearts of Gold Charity Burns Supper at The Aberdeeen Beach Ballroom on Friday, 2nd February 2024 at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. This event is supported by The Robert Burns World Federation North East Scotland in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.



Tickets are sold at £60 per person, which covers a delicious 3-course meal, fantastic performances, entertainment, and a chance to enter the numerous raffle draws!

M﻿ost people have heard of Agile. Many have tried it and found it lacking but many projects do not fit well into the traditional, predictive project management model. Hybrid Agile gives a way of merging the strengths of the two to deliver what the project needs.



H﻿ow and why do we use it?



P﻿eter will explore how the tools and techniques of each approach can be blended to give a highly effective way to manage projects that don&#8217;t fit into Predictive or Agile processes.

T﻿he above discussion will be supported with a practical example of the application of Hybrid Agile in a real situation.

Hybrid Agile is a relatively new project management concept that is gaining traction. The approach is not Oil and Gas specific and can be applied to any business where there is a repeating work process (i.e. procurement, subcontracts, fabrication, annual company accounts, etc.). Therefore, those outwith the Oil and Gas sector are also very welcome to attend and will benefit from this session!

<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-cranston/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peter F Cranston</a>&nbsp;is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Registered Project Management Professional (PMP). He is also a Project Engineer and Project Manager with over 30 years’ experience across a wide range of projects, primarily Oil and Gas.



He is the Founder and Author of the Project Engineer’s Toolkit textbook and webinar series. More recently, he has been instrumental in implementing Hybrid Agile KANBAN solutions and training across a range of non-engineering processes for clients in the US Gulf of Mexico.



Peter is now providing a range of training and coaching services for early career Project Professionals in the essential skills to be an effective Project Engineer or Project Manager. He also owns&nbsp;<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/cranstoneng/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cranston Engineering Ltd</a>.

The event is taking place on the 26th of August from 5-7 PM and is&nbsp;free&nbsp;for members &#8211; non-members can purchase tickets for £8. Nagashree ‘Nash’ Ramamurthy was inspired after attending our Crathes Castle Tour and proposed to co-organise a trip to Balmoral Castle! 



Balmoral is open only until 16th August, so the tour is scheduled for Saturday, 5th August at 9:00AM-3:00PM.



Currently, there are 10 spaces available (first come, first served). Participants will pay a contribution of £5 for the fuel costs, castle admission fee (~£15) and lunch. Message Isabel Simon at president@jciaberdeen.org.uk if you’d like to join so she can send you all the details. ????☀️????????

JCI Aberdeen’s Castle Hopping 2023 (a summer-long cultural and social event) culminates at the magnificent Crathes Castle on the 22nd of July! This 16th-century castle is surrounded by a bonnie estate and a walled garden. The <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.facebook.com/events/522846416589837/522846423256503/" target="_blank">Exclusively Highlands Crathes Castle Summer Market</a> will also take place on the 22nd—which will give marketgoers the opportunity to sample and buy Scottish delicacies, goods and products! 



The tour is open to JCI Aberdeen members and anyone aged 18-40.

JCI Aberdeen’s Castle Hopping 2023 continues with Castle Fraser as the second destination! It is one of Scotland&#8217;s largest tower houses that boasts an impressive portrait collection, fascinating family treasures and more.



The tour is open to JCI Aberdeen members and anyone aged 18-40.

JCI Aberdeen will be hosting an Earth Day Clean-up project on Saturday, 22nd April 2023.



What is Earth Day about?



Marked by millions around the world, Earth Day is an annual event designed to shine a light on the serious environmental problems we’re facing, from the climate crisis to air pollution and deforestation.



Earth Day 2023 occurs after the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a study in August 2021 that was regarded as a &#8220;code red for humanity,&#8221; with experts warning that temperatures are expected to soar above 2°C above pre-industrial levels this century (a scenario that would have catastrophic effects worldwide). Meanwhile, there was widespread dissatisfaction with the agreement reached at Cop26 in November 2021, demonstrating the severity of the task we confront.



Come join us, together with over 1 billion volunteers worldwide, in cleaning up our respective communities of litter and waste! Meet us at the entrance of Torry Point Battery at 10:00AM with your bin bags and litter pickers! If you’d like to borrow one, please let us know when you register.

JCI Aberdeen is delighted to partner up with Granite City Speakers which is part of the Association of Speakers&#8217; Clubs (ASC). The speakers&#8217; club helps it members to improve their public speaking and leadership skills. This workshop will focus on public speaking and how you can develop your confidence when facing an audience.



Your trainer, Roddy Macpherson, will bring knowledge and experience from his years on the public speaking circuit. The eye-catching picture of Roddy in the red coatee of his current position, Unicorn Pursuivant of Arms at the Lyon Court, is purposeful. His colourfulness is linguistic as well as sartorial. This has a purpose &#8211; to be persuasive.



This workshop will be a cheerful introduction to the ins-and-outs of public speaking, namely invention, arrangement, delivery &#8211; or, as Roddy prefers to put it, preparation, preparation, preparation.



You will leave this workshop with a better understanding of your own preparation methods and delivery style. You will learn to be more eloquent and be purposeful in your delivery, speaking without being tied to your notes&#8230;so long as you pass the vital test&#8230;to have something that needs to be said!

About the Trainer



Roddy Macpherson practices as a messenger-at-arms and sheriff officer under the firm name of Rutherford &amp; Macpherson. He also holds the office of Unicorn Pursuivant at The Court of the Lord Lyon, is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and sometime Secretary of the Oxford University Heraldry Society. He has twice been President of the Society of Messengers-at-Arms and Sheriff Officers, was Preses of the Grand Antiquity Society of Glasgow and is a past President of the Glasgow Highland Club.

In true JCI style, we&#8217;re pushing ourselves and taking on the famous &#8216;7 Hills of Edinburgh&#8217; challenge! Join us for this full day activity and get to know Edinburgh on foot.



We&#8217;ll meet at Edinburgh Castle, and follow the route which takes us to every corner of the city, before finishing at a pub for some celebratory drinks.



The walk is expected to take up to 12 hours in total, so it will be a challenging day. As all of the hills are within the city, if any participants need to leave early, or cannot finish the walk for any reason, they can leave at any point and will be in a central location. So please don&#8217;t worry if you feel you can&#8217;t complete the full course.

About the Speaker



Caro Overy&nbsp;is a musician and sustainability professional based in Edinburgh. In her work with&nbsp;Creative Carbon Scotland, she supports cultural organisations and artists with tools, resources and training as they seek to address the climate emergency. Since 2020, Caro has received support from&nbsp;Creative Informatics&nbsp;to shape&nbsp;Climate Friendly Culture, collaborating with&nbsp;inGenerator&nbsp;and&nbsp;Creative Carbon Scotland&nbsp;to develop a digital tool to support sustainable culture.



Following an undergraduate degree in Philosophy/History with European Study at the&nbsp;University of Exeter, Caro moved to Edinburgh in 2009 to undertake an MSc in Environment Culture &amp; Society at the&nbsp;University of Edinburgh&nbsp;where she subsequently worked in Social Responsibility &amp; Sustainability for seven years. Ever valuing interdisciplinary life, after a short stint as a professional musician, she found her current professional balance at the intersection of arts and climate change. Caro is passionate about the practical and unique role culture plays in transitioning to a lower-carbon, fairer world. As a lifelong practising musician, she leads community choirs, facilitates community music projects, and works as a vocalist, lyricist and guitarist with a number of performing bands and artists.

In all walks of life, we have to do some form of public speaking, even if we don’t realise it. How often have you been caught off guard when speaking in a meeting by a question that has been asked? How do you react and think on your feet?



During this interactive workshop, this is exactly the sort of scenario you will be training for. Through this training session, you will learn to think faster on your feet and provide a quality answer.



Whether you have been doing public speaking for years, or just want to push yourself to try new things, this is a great event to do that in a safe and welcoming environment. You will learn the basics of how to do off the cuff speaking, as well as prepare a new story to deliver to the room (all in a fun way, of course!).



Our trainer for this event is Steven Crawford. Steven is well known within JCI, joining in 2014, he went on to become JCI Edinburgh president in 2018, and national president in 2020. He did his first public talk at the age of 7, and has learnt many skills since then on how to be a better public speaker over the years. He won the JCI Scotland National Public Speaking award in 2018, and has provided several public speaking and debating training for members

What is Earth Day about?



Marked by millions around the world, Earth Day is an annual event designed to shine a light on the serious environmental problems we’re facing, from the climate crisis to air pollution and deforestation.



Earth Day 2022 occurs after the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a study in August 2021 that was regarded as a &#8220;code red for humanity,&#8221; with experts warning that temperatures are expected to soar above 2°C above pre-industrial levels this century (a scenario that would have catastrophic effects worldwide). Meanwhile, there was widespread dissatisfaction with the agreement reached at COP26 in November 2021, demonstrating the severity of the task we confront.

The JCI Scotland National Conference will be in the great city of Dundee on the 8th-10th April 2022. This year is also the 85th Anniversary of JCI in Scotland so we&#8217;ll be diving into the history of our organisation, learning, celebrating, and taking inspiration from our predecessors, with an eye to how we can adapt for the future.

We will be asking our panelists to share their experiences and advice on navigating workplaces rife with stigma, discrimination, bias and stereotypes. We will also be discussing how we can work together with our allies in our efforts towards achieving a gender equal world. Project Management Workshop &#8211; Is project management for you?



This is a 2-hour interactive workshop which will cover Key Areas of Project Management, including the all-important &#8220;Soft&#8221; People Skills, Core Project Management Practices and Specific Industry Knowledge.



We will also look at the various qualifications available and discuss what the future holds for Project Management. This will be supported by real-life examples encountered during a 30-year career.











About the Speaker/Trainer



<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-cranston/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peter Cranston</a>&nbsp;is an experienced Chartered Engineer (CEng), registered Project Management Professional (PMP) and Toastmaster DTM.



He has led projects as both Project Engineer and Manager for over 30 years for major contractors and operators and has been responsible for a range of topsides, subsea and drilling upgrades projects with reporting team size up to 100 and project value up to £80M.



His focus is in ensuring simple robust work processes and coaching/developing team members at all levels through his company,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/cranstoneng/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cranston Engineering Ltd</a>.



Regarding coaching and training, he is the author of a 31-chapter text entitled the “Project Engineers Toolkit” and a recently released series of online webinars focusing on coaching and developing the Project Engineering community.

On Thursday 11th November from 6pm BST &#8211; 9pm BST JCI Edinburgh is hosting an Introduction to Improv workshop. What can you expect?



The main aim of this workshop is to have fun. We will start with a few group warm-up activities to ease you into the world of improv and then we will dive right in. We&#8217;ll dispel any preconceived ideas about having to be quick thinking and funny, and start learning some simple guidelines (not rules!) that will get you performing scenes almost straightway. We&#8217;ll play some different games and formats (some may be familiar if you&#8217;ve ever watched Who&#8217;s Line Is It Anyway?) that will show you just how much fun this beautiful artform can be. The keyword here is &#8216;Play&#8217;. Together we will create a safe space where we can leave our inhibitions behind and play.

The project started in 2008 when JCI Estonia, in collaboration with the government, business leaders and over 500 civic organisations, launched a campaign to clean up their communities and their country of the waste which had been dumped illegally all over the landscape. Since then, it has grown and has turned into one of the fastest growing global civic movements of modern times. The project is now supported by governments and businesses in over 150 countries worldwide.

We would like to invite you to our next event hosted by JCI Alba &#8211; A new provisional online organisation set up by JCI Scotland.



We are looking to target the untapped opportunities that encourage Young Professionals to engage in conversation about meaningful topics that are relevant to our modern society and develop the skills that are core to all aspects of successful leadership.



Dialogue is not just about discussing topics but it is when ‘human beings listen deeply enough to each other to be changed by what they learn’. Being open to change is deeply meaningful in the world in which we live, having our beliefs system is important but what do we do when we are challenged? Dialogue is all about having an open discussion, where the topic is the centre and there are no sides. This allows the participant the opportunity to develop solutions to challenges and ultimately look at taking action that has meaningful impact.



We hope to achieve this by providing opportunities for young professionals to engage in dialogue.



These include:



* Developing confidence, empathy, critical thinking, and other 21st Century skills



* Increasing awareness of our common humanity while also learning to engage constructively with difference



* Developing listening skills, mutual respect, challenging points of view and accepting that others think differently to you, creating a platform for change and action



* Creating engagement and collaborating on initiatives to improve a community



* Providing an enjoyable and enriching learning experience.



We will follow a &#8216;learn &amp; do&#8217; model, where we will first discuss some of the techniques and key skills and then give you an opportunity to put these into practice during the session.



We encourage all JCI members and guests to take part in this training. You will learn how to engage in better dialogue, supporting you to become a strong facilitator and conversationalist. This will help us to open up discussions, develop interesting and relevant ideas and solutions, and enhance abilities to influence key decision makers.

About the Speaker



<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/deborah-beriro-m-s-lmhc-ncc-b203466/detail/contact-info/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Deborah Beriro, M.S. MA, LMHC, NCC</a>&nbsp;is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida and has a Master’s of Science in Applied Psychology and Mental Health Counseling. She is also a National Certified Counselor.



Deborah began her training in in-patient treatment for Addiction/Substance Use Disorder and accompanying comorbid/concurrent disorders. After several years working with clients and their families in in-patient care, she eventually started her own private practice. Now, Deborah has turned her focus to how early childhood wounds manifest shame, low self-worth and low self-esteem in her adult clients. She has been trained in various evidence-based modalities: CBT, DBT, REBT, Gottman, NARM, etc. and as a result, is considered an eclectic therapist. She tailors her interventions to the client’s needs and their presenting problems. Deborah specialises in addiction, co-dependency, anxiety, depression, C-PTSD (complex childhood trauma) and mood disorders.
